Integrative PsychotherapyIntegrative Psychotherapy is the term I use to describe the fact that I integrate mind-body-spirit approaches fully into my psychotherapeutic work. I have been a practicing licensed clinical psychologist since 1985, seeing adults, adolescents, and children. The psychotherapeutic relationship is a healing partnership, a journey of discovery in which client and clinician are equally invested. Together, goals are identified and choices are made about which approaches might best achieve those goals. Along the way, people shift, perhaps from tending to dwell in negativity, overly focusing on the future (anxiety) and/or on the past (depression), into recovering their strengths, being more fully present in each moment--more and more, saying "yes" to life. I tailor sessions to your individual needs-always with your input. Individual PsychotherapyI specialize in assisting people of all ages having chronic pain or illness, depression, anxiety, and/or stress-related issues as well as people who come purely for personal growth and to live a more fulfilling, balanced life. Relationship and Group CounselingWith a background in Bowen family systems work and Imago relationship therapy, I work with couples, facilitating improved communication and the working through of interper-sonal patterns that are not effective. I have a women's group that will start again in early 2008. The social support provided by group work has been found to be a profound factor in healing. Dr. David Spiegel's research on women with end-stage metastasized breast cancer treated in the 1970's found that whether or not the women were in a support group was the most crucial factor in who had a better outcome. The women in support groups survived twice as long, living approximately 18 months longer than the other women. Parent CounselingParental counseling is available, and play therapy for young children. My undergraduate degree was in Special Education. I have worked in a number of settings that have honed my skills in working with children and parents: Children’s Hospital in Boston, Arlington County Schools, Center for Children in LaPlata, MD, to name a few.
